As a result of Huhtamaki's growing strategic focus on food packaging the company has decided to evaluate options regarding its Films business. One possible outcome of this review is divestment of the business unit.
Finnish packaging company Huhtamaki has entered into an agreement to acquire Positive Packaging, a privately-owned flexible packaging company with nine manufacturing facilities in India and the UAE (six in India and three in the UAE), as well as significant business in Africa and other export markets. With the acquisition, Huhtamaki continues to implement its strategy for growth in the emerging markets.
LRS Consultancy (LRS), in partnership with Enval, SITA UK, Tesco UK, Nestle UK & Ireland, and Coca-Cola Enterprises, has received funding from the UK's Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) to investigate viable approaches for collecting flexible packaging materials containing aluminium, such as toothpaste tubes and pet food sachets, to improve recycling and the remanufacture of aluminium.
Food packaging producer Linpac Packaging has initiated a second phase of investment in its Freshware range of tubs, trays and containers, which will see an additional thermoformer installed to enable the company to offer a fast turnaround supply of new designs for the high churn convenience and prepared foods market.
Tray-sealing and thermoforming technology supplier, Sealpac, has won a packaging award in France for TenderPac, which is a two-compartment vacuum packaging system designed to separate the meat product from drip-loss during transport and storage and thus increase shelf-life.
