Secondary materials are losing some of their appeal since virgin material prices have been falling. In May 2017, this has led to uneven pricing: rPE was mostly trending down while rPP remained at the previous month’s level and rPET was running strong enough to allow recyclers to increase prices slightly.

The prospect of a lasting downtrend for primary materials is determining market behaviour. Positive stimuli are most likely to be found with materials that are used for consumer applications.
