Spongy coffee drink rolls out across US

The iconic Twinkies brand is being rolled out in new formats

The iconic taste of Twinkies is being delivered to consumers in a new form – that of a cappuccino – after Kerry Convenience entered into a license agreement with Hostess Brands in the US.

Kerry will manufacture and distribute Twinkies Cappuccino under the Hostess brand, with the beverage combining creamy milk, sponge cake flavour and a hint of coffee for a twist on the iconic Twinkie product. It has already been launched in the northeastern convenience store chain Sheetz, and will be available shortly in convenience stores nationwide.

Ellen Copaken, vice president of marketing at Hostess Brands, said: “Twinkies Cappuccino not only provides consumers with another option when selecting a treat, it combines two of their favorites into one decadent indulgence. Further, the beverage allows c-store operators the opportunity for multi-category promotional activity, rewarding consumers in an engaging way.”

This first-time entry for Hostess into the hot dispensed category closely follows on the launch of Deep Fried Twinkies and the release of several Hostess ice cream products, both of which were also new categories for the brand.

Headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, Hostess Brands was formed in 2013 and owns several bakeries in the US that produce snack cakes under the Hostess and Dolly Madison brand names. The company is separate from Old HB, which was formerly known as Hostess Brands from 2009 to 2013 and went into liquidation. The collapsed company sold its cake business to Apollo and Metropoulos, creating the current Hostess Brands.
