Snap-on lid production comes to LALA land

Mexican dairy group LALA has brought the production of plastics snap-on lids for yoghurt products in-house with the installation of a form-fill-seal machine by France’s IMA Erca at its Irapuato site.

The company previously purchased the lids externally, but a new patent was developed for the EF825 FFS machine as part of the ‘Duomo’ project. This involves the production of transparent plastics snap-on lids that are thermoformed and filled with cereals or other toppings such as puffed rice and chocolate balls.

Both polystyrene and PET can be processed for the lids and the fill quantity is regulated by volume or weight depending on the topping type. A small spoon can also be added to the cup lid in-line. The machine has an output of about 32,000 filled and sealed lids per hour.

It is expected that the new machine will generate its return on investment (ROI) within nine months.
