Initial plans by some producers to increase prices were unsuccessful. PP contract prices rolled over, despite a slight decrease in the monomer price. In contrast, contract prices for homopolymer injection moulding grades crumbled by €10 ($11) a tonne on average.
Production problems increased during the month. In the compounding sector, the slight decline in the propylene reference was not significant enough to trigger any price movement in indexed contracts. The monomer price is expected to deteriorate substantially in December, so that PP contract prices will likely sink across the board. Depending on the size of the price reduction, speculative buyers may be attracted to the market.
