Nestlé USA has agreed to acquire Sweet Earth, a plant-based foods manufacturer based in California, US.

The acquisition gives Nestlé an entry into the plant-based foods segment in the US, with the market expected to reach CHF 5 billion ($4.7bn) worldwide by 2020.

Sweet Earth’s products feature global flavours and plant-based proteins like seitan, tofu and legumes like lentils, chickpeas and beans.

This acquisition follows Nestlé’s recent equity stake in direct-to-consumer delivery service Freshly, and also complements its Garden Gourmet vegetarian protein-based range in Europe.
