Coca Cola European Partners (CCEP) is to purchase a supply of 100 per cent rPET from Loop Industries in order to increase its use of recycled materials in the creation of its bottles. CCEP expects to be using Loop rPET in its packaging by early 2020.

Ron Lewis, chief supply chain officer of CCEP, said: “This is an important investment as it directly supports our sustainability action plan ‘This is Forward’. As part of ‘This is Forward’, we’ve committed to ensuring that at least 50 per cent of the material we use for our PET bottles comes from recycled plastic by 2025. This is part of a holistic strategy focused on creating a more circular packaging economy.”

Loop is a provider of enhanced recycling technology that makes available new sources of high quality rPET, which previously could not be used due to colourant or other recyclability obstacles.

In October, rival PepsiCo entered into a multi-year supply agreement with Loop Industries whereby the former will incorporate LoopT PET plastics into its product packaging by early 2020.
