Weak growth in emerging markets slowed down Diageo’s expansion in the six months to the end of December.

In the interim results for Dublin-based global spirits and beer producer behind brands such as Johnny Walker and Guinness, sales were reported up by 1.8 percent in its 2014 first-half period but at £5.93 billion (US$9.76bn) were down on the same period a year earlier. Operating profit was up slightly year-on-year at £2.04bn ($3.36bn).
