Polyolefins producer Braskem is celebrating the first full year of commercial operations at its newest PP production line in La Porte, Texas (USA).
Braskem’s chief executive Mark Nikolich called the enhanced production capabilities from the newest facility “critically important” as the larger industry supply was negatively impacted by Winter Storm Uri.
“Our decision to invest in North America’s largest PP production facility reflects our commitment to our leadership position in the US market,” he added.
The line had an initial nameplate production capacity of 450,000 tonnes, and its first full year produced more than 365,000t despite the challenges faced from the storm. It was designed with the capability to produce the entire PP portfolio including a broad range of products such as homopolymer, impact copolymer and random copolymers.
Alexandre Elias, vice president for US olefins and polyolefins at Braskem America, said: “The launch of production at our newest manufacturing line in La Porte has significantly improved the capacity as well as efficiency of our entire US PP production portfolio, with our new line producing some of the highest volume commercial grades at significant scale.”
